27 November 2019 - Our Head of Marketing & Communications Steve Casey today launched the 30 Years of Guardian™ Note by Note Printing Australia, our jointly produced house note with CCL Secure, with Design Manager Bradley Booth in the final session of the HSP Asia Conference.
The presentation took the audience through the design journey that was a truly collaborative effort, starting with the NPA Design Team’s Design Brief and initial brainstorm design ideas, to the development of the concept design and corresponding substrate design, and ultimately to the final design with a review of its features.
“Brad and I traded off throughout the presentation which I think conveyed the friendly and constructive nature of our collaboration with CCL Secure. We started the presentation by introducing people to our unique high security precinct and talked about the benefits that offers which includes enabling a collaborative environment, the ability for agile supplier response times during production, and the fact that the entire production process occurs within one of the world’s most secure banknote manufacturing facilities,” says Steve.
After following the design journey and reviewing the 30 Years of Guardian Note in some detail, Steve and Brad offered insights into what the house note taught us and what its implications are for banknote security. This was predicated on a detailed discussion with the RBA’s counterfeit analysis expert, Sani Mook, who is based in the RBA’s Level 3 office and who reviewed the house note in some detail.
The insights came from three different but related perspectives. First, from the public’s point of view the super-sized window commands the attention of the viewer and has them naturally authenticating a larger area of the banknote. Second, having the larger window creates the opportunity for more complex windows through the addition of multiple technologies in the window area. And third, by combining these two factors the counterfeiter therefore needs to cope with more clear window areas and multiple technologies, which naturally enhances the counter resistance of the banknote.
“Yesterday we saw how NPA collaborated with KBA to create a new security feature. Today, our collaboration has resulted in some interesting new insights into how banknote design can be used to enhance banknote security even through the use of traditional features,” says Steve.
Joint Effort: Steve and Brad take the HSP Asia audience through the 30 Year of Guardian Note’s highly visual design journey.
