SUSI FLIP™ ON SOLOMON ISLANDS $5 AN IACA AWARD FINALIST

April 29 2020 - Melbourne The International Association of Currency Affairs (IACA) has confirmed to Note Printing Australia that its nomination of SUSI Flip™ on the Solomon Islands new polymer $5 has been selected as a finalist for the IACA 2020 Excellence in Currency Technical Award.

It is one of five finalists in the category of Best New Currency Feature or Product, which includes a Reserve Bank of Australia entry with the Walt Disney Company called a ‘Projection Based Image Feature’.

“This selection recognizes the outstanding nature of your organization’s efforts, and its contribution towards making currency the best that it can be,” said Eugenie Foster, IACA President.

SUSI Flip™ is a cleverly designed UV ink feature printed using the Simultan IV and was a world first application for a circulating banknote, a fact the Central Bank of the Solomon Islands has taken great pride in.

SUSI Flip™, developed by KBA NotaSys to take advantage of the Simultan IV’s precise registration, is a very cost effective feature that uses two UV inks in combination to create a three colour design when viewed under a UV light.  The design treatment developed by the NPA Design team extended the sustainable fishing theme to this level 2 feature.

“I want to congratulate Commercial Services for convincing the customer to go with the feature, the Design team for integrating it into the note’s design, and the team on the Simultan IV for successfully printing the SUSI Flip™ feature,” says Malcolm.  “The award also gives further exposure to the Central Bank of the Solomon Islands who are an excellent customer and have been a pleasure to work with.”

The award ceremony was scheduled to take place at Banknote Conference earlier this month.  The conference, which will be held in Washington DC, is now scheduled for 2-5 November.

Says Eugenie, “We look forward to the awards ceremony when we will salute all of IACA Excellence in Currency Technical Award finalists and announce the winners. We are monitoring developments related to the Covid-19 crisis and will follow up with you once we have established the date for the awards presentation.”
