The International Banknote Society (IBNS) was welcomed to NPA on Friday 11 October as the opening event for the IBNS National Conference which was held over the following weekend. NPA's Larry Safaya Production Manager – Banknotes was generous with his time by delivering the opening presentation at the conference on a Saturday morning. The topic was A Security Printer's View of the 1000 Piso.
Larry’s 30-minute presentation took the group through a print layer by print layer description of the Philippines 1000 Piso – the IBNS 2022 Banknote of the Year – and also analysed the print characteristics of printing on polymer versus paper.
The Friday event involved 14 members of the IBNS from around the country visiting The Protectorate and meeting with Raj Prasad (who also attended the conference on Saturday morning), Dean McGrath, Igor Petrenko, Joanne Papalia, Natasha Tanoto and Steve Casey. As passionate banknote enthusiasts, the group soaked up any and all information that was discussed over the two hours.
IBNS Melbourne Chapter President Stephen Prior together with Vice President Frank Robinson and Newsletter Editor David White presented certificates of appreciation to NPA both at the welcome event and also to Larry for his very well received presentation.
As part of NPA's engagement with the community, the IBNS is a very committed and influential stakeholder group. Worldwide, the IBNS has more than 2000 members and many members within the group have either worked in the banknote Industry or are in the banknote collector market as brokers.
Layers of Insight: NPA’s Larry Safaya takes the IBNS conference delegates through a fascinating presentation that explained the print construction of the Philippines 1000 Piso banknote.
