At the most recent meeting of the NPA Board, the 2025-28 Sustainability Strategy was approved. This has been the culmination of an extensive program of work including climate change risk assessments and engaging our customers and suppliers in shaping our new strategy. This strategy aligns with our purpose and values, industry standards, and stakeholder expectations.
“For the next three years, the Board has requested that our Sustainability Strategy focus on climate action and enhancing sustainability across the value chain,” says Hiru Jayatunge, our Sustainability Manager. “This has been prioritised as part of NPA's broader sustainability efforts which include an ESG framework.”
What is ESG?
ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) is a framework that businesses use to assess and report on their environmental, social, and governance performance. These indicators are shaped by stakeholder expectations, regulatory requirements, and industry trends, and require ongoing measurement, monitoring, and reporting.
NPA’s Sustainability Commitment
Our sustainability commitment has three key pillars:
Low Carbon Future – This pillar focuses on our Environmental responsibility. We are committed to reducing our carbon footprint, minimising waste, and promoting circular economy initiatives across our operations and supply chains. A key highlight is our ambition to achieve Net Zero by 2030 for our operational emissions, i.e. Scope 1 and 2 emissions (with NPA’s energy consumption included in Scope 2).
More Equitable Society – This pillar focuses on Social responsibility. We are committed to creating a healthy and safe workplace, fostering diversity and inclusion, and supporting our employees' professional and personal growth. Our commitment to continuous improvement ensures that the high-security products we manufacture are of the highest quality and safety, ensuring customer and end-user satisfaction.
Responsible Governance – This is about how we Govern our business. We uphold the highest ethical standards and security governance in our day-to-day work while ensuring that our risk management and decision-making processes are robust.
“Both the social and governance pillars are well-established within NPA and progressing strongly, which is the basis for the Board asking us to place greater focus on environmental action moving forward,” says Hiru.
Sustainability is a collective effort, and all NPA staff have been making the move to a more sustainable work life through a range of NPA sustainability programs. Whether it is NPA’s employee waste reduction initiative called the Waste Warrior Program, reducing our energy usage, saying no to single-use plastics, or ensuring our suppliers are reducing their emissions and waste, there is always something we can do!
